GUARDIAN MEDIA LIMITED AND ITS SUBSIDIARIES ANNUAL REPORT 2021 79GUARDIAN MEDIA LIMITED AND ITS SUBSIDIARIESNOTES TO THE CONSOLIDATED FINANCIAL STATEMENTSFOR THE YEAR ENDED 31 DECEMBER 2021(Expressed in Thousands of Trinidad and Tobago Dollars, except where otherwise stated)(Continued)2. Significant accounting policies (continued)xvii. Trade and other payablesLiabilities for trade and other amounts payable, which are normally settled on 30-90 days terms, are carried at cost, which is the fair value of the consideration to be paid in the future for goods and services received, whether or not billed to the Group.xviii. Earnings per shareThe computation of earnings per share is calculated as the net income attributable to ordinary shareholders (net of preference shares), divided by the weighted average number of ordinary shares outstanding during the period, net of treasury shares. The Group has no dilutive potential ordinary shares in issue.xix. ProvisionsProvisions are required when the Group has a present obligation as a result of a past event, where it is probable that an outflow of resources embodying economic benefits will be required to settle the obligation and a reliable estimate can be made of the amount of the obligation.Restructuring provisions are recognised only when the Group has a constructive obligation, which is when a detailed formal plan identifies the business or part of the business concerned, the location and number of employees affected, a detailed estimate of the associated costs, and an appropriate timeline, and the employees affected have been notified of the plan%u2019s main features. When the Group can reliably measure the outflow of economic benefits in relation to a specific matter and considers such outflows to be probable, the Group records a provision against the matter. Given the subjectivity and uncertainty of determining the probability of losses, the Group takes into account a number of factors including legal advice, the stage of the matter and historical evidence from similar incidents. Significant judgment is required to conclude on these estimates.
